High-Impact School Marketing: Creating the Raving Fan Marketing Strategy for Your School

Removing the Complexity

With the rise and ubiquity of social media with multiple and accessible digital platforms, Catholic school marketing may seem increasingly more complex as we compete for shorter attention spans in an intensely technology-driven consumer culture.

Our advantage in Catholic school marketing is that we have a core following of people that care deeply about us and have an abiding, emotional attachment to our story: parents, faculty, parishioners, alumni, grandparents, community, supporters and friends. In the branding world, we are the envy of most companies as so many people have a strong and enduring connection to our school.

Through our Leadership Coaching Process, we teach that the goal in Catholic school marketing is simplicity. With a clear, compelling and consistent message of faith, family, and academic excellence; we remove the complexity.

The Required Tools

Converting the complex into a simple and effective school marketing plan is not creating an endless parade of empty content, but rather the proper utilization of your unique branding position to produce a quality, inspiring message.

Spending time gathering survey data and having conversations with your stakeholders about the image of your school is a good place to start. Once you have some sufficient data, here are tools to put in place:

  • Marketing Tool #1: Make the School Website a Key Marketing Strategy
  • Marketing Tool #2: Create the 6-7 School Branding & Message Statements
  • Marketing Tool #3: Design the School Marketing Plan around the Four Seasons of the School Year
  • Marketing Tool #4: Create a Weekly and Monthly Content Strategy
  • Marketing Tool #5: Execute Content Strategy through Multiple Platforms
  • Marketing Tool #6: Gather Data and Metrics on Content Strategy
  • Marketing Tool #7: Utilize the Power of Raving Fans to Tell Your Story

Raving Fan Strategy

Within the context of a comprehensive Catholic School Marketing Plan, creating the Raving Fan strategy is very cost-effective and powerful. By utilizing your stakeholder supporters through conversations, testimonials and proactive marketing strategies, you will reach more people in the right target audience to tell your dynamic story of success. Here are the five key steps:

  • Step #1: Be a School of Excellence and Vitality: We must give our raving fans something to rave about. You must deliver on your promise of providing a quality Catholic education in a safe and welcoming community of faith, hope and love. This IS your story and we wish to share this message.
  • Step #2: Identify and Invite 25-30 Raving Fans: Look for people that are energetic, positive and care deeply about your school: parents, parishioners, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends. They love you and have a servant heart. Personally invite them to join the Raving Fan Marketing Team.
  • Step #3: Provide Training and Materials for Raving Fans: Through meetings, videos and training sessions, this group is provided with the right messaging and handouts that are essential for success. They are sent weekly “good news” updates and given a business card size school promotional piece to give away at ball games, social events and engagement meetings.
  • Step #4: Monitor Strategy and Provide Support for Raving Fans: There are regular meetings to discuss key strategies like being school tour partners, content creators/sharers, offering testimonials and planning marketing events. School leaders provide ongoing information, updates, strategy and support.
  • Step #5: Evaluate Results, Implement Updates and Keep Moving: With clear metrics, data analysis and feedback, monthly marketing strategy is evaluated and updates are implemented to produce the best results. We persevere in our efforts in spreading the positive word, connecting with stakeholders and building an enduring image of vitality and growth.

People connecting with people who share a common interest in your school is so simple, effective, satisfyingly creative and speaks to the heart and soul of our mission. Get started today and let me know how you are doing.
